Authentic can still be unsuitable
A genuine formula may still irritate, conflict with your routine or be wrong for your concern.
Skincare safety
No single barcode, batch code, seal or packaging detail can prove authenticity. Start with the seller and supply chain, then inspect the label, batch, expiry, packaging and condition together.
OuterDerm 3-Step Check
Start with seller provenance, then inspect label, manufacturer details, batch or lot, expiry or shelf-life information, tamper evidence where expected, packaging condition, container condition and unexpected changes in colour, smell, consistency or separation.
Check the category requirements, skin type, intended concern, irritation risk, warnings and whether the product is being used in an appropriate way.
Judge whether it performs the basic job, is practical enough to use consistently, has reasonable size and price for the function, and has limitations you can accept.

Packaging, seals, barcodes and spelling can be copied. Treat them as evidence, not proof.
A barcode may identify the product type without proving the exact unit is genuine.
May identify a product type; it does not authenticate the exact unit.
Can be copied, redirected or used for marketing rather than authentication.
A valid-looking result is one signal, not proof by itself.

Correct spelling is expected, but counterfeiters can copy text.
Brands update packaging and counterfeiters copy images.
Expensive products can still be fake, expired or poorly stored.
A marketplace badge is not exact-unit authentication.
Reviews do not prove the product you receive is genuine or in good condition.
In short: A barcode that scans. A QR code. A batch code appearing valid. Correct spelling. A seal. Packaging that looks similar to an online image. None of these should be treated as a guarantee on its own.
